Resum

The radical cation of C60 is prepared by electron transfer to singlet N-methylacridinium hexafluorophosphate. It has lambda(max) near 980 nm. The radical cation can also be prepared in higher yield by cosensitization, using high concentrations of biphenyl to form biphenyl radical cation which is the ultimate oxidant for C60.
