Resum
Suicide is the second leading cause of non natural death worldwide, therefore it is clear that prevention, evaluation and treatment of suicide is essential.
Objective: profile evaluation of a group of patients with depression attended at a public mental health service in a group format. Variables evaluated are: suicidal ideation, hopelessness, vitality, personality disorders, anxiety, emotional intelligence, self-esteem and subjective quality of life.
Methodology: This evaluation is part of the AFRONTA study, whose aim is suicide prevention and mental health promotion. The sample consisted on 80 patients from the mental health centre of Consorci Sanitari del Maresme in Mataró, Spain.
Results and discussion: Significant correlations of self-esteem with almost all the evaluated variables are observed, which indicates that self-esteem is a crucial variable to be evaluated in the studied population. Likewise, the hopelessness variable has been found more correlated to other clinical variables than depression, measured with BDI. The repair of the emotions correlates with both cited variables, demonstrating as a basic variable to be taken into account both in the evaluation and in the treatment. There are no differences between subjects with a personality disorder and subjects with no personality disorders, except for self-esteem. No differences are appreciated in suicida impulse between the two groups, but these differences become relevant when referring to suicide attempts
