Resum
This analysis uses the Sociology of Power complemented by Darby and Mac Ginty’s literature on conflict resolution to study the evolution of the post-Gaddafi Libyan power structure and the peace initiatives in the second civil war between 2014 and 2020. Thehypothesis asserts that the success of a peace initiative depends on whether the conflict itself is useful in the circular competition for power between primary elites. This research confirms this assessment although complementary elements are to be considered to justify the sustained failure of most initiatives until the 2020 ceasefire.
