abstract = "Digital HF communications are becoming a successful costless alternative for long distance links where cable or satellite is not available. Although channel models and channel simulators do currently exist, they do no manage to emulate the exact noise and interference conditions of a single point-to-point communication. In this paper an alternative procedure to test and optimize HF receivers is proposed. The method uses real time measured noise and interference to evaluate transceiver performance. The application of this procedure to test a communication system between Antarctica and Spain is described.",
