Resum
This study examines the motivations, strategies and toolkits of professionals in cultural industries who deviate from or reframe taken-for-granted norms, and the conditions under which their efforts fail or flourish. We bring together insights from institutional theory and sociology of culture to discuss aspects of motivation, opportunity sets, and strategies/toolkits for norm violation. We suggest that professionals may act as normative entrepreneurs insomuch as they embark on crafting new approaches and industry conventions while, at the same time, experimenting with, reframing and violating existing conventions.
