Miguel Romero (1945–2014): A Political and Intellectual Portrait

Miguel Romero (1946–2014) was one of the most prominent figures of Spain's revolutionary Left and became the editor of the political journal Viento Sur in 1992. His death on 26 January 2014 offers an opportunity to look back at his political and intellectual life and to present him to the Anglo-Saxon world at a time when Spain is at the center of European politics due to the major economic and political crisis that it is suffering. Romero's militancy began in the anti-Franco student movement in the sixties, and he formed part of a minority that never accepted the new political regime that emerged in the seventies after the end of the dictatorship. He wrote on international politics, the post-Franco Transition, the Spanish Civil War and the Spanish Revolution, the relationship between politics and social movements, and strategic affairs.
