Resum
This article starts off discussing
two viewpoints: one focused on the actual teaching activity carried out by teachers, and the other relating
to what it is like for young learners, as pupils and students, during their primary and secondary school years
to being at university. By asking questions about how we are taught and how we learn, this article focuses on two seemingly unimportant details, but which have a very relevant role in the teaching and learning processes. It concerns the
use of metaphors and visual aids in teaching to facilitate learning.
Various metaphors, aphorisms, diagrams and drawings (very specific and imaginative ones) become simple
and subtle ways with a remarkable potential to explain, express and understand concepts or to develop group
reflection and build knowledge.
