Resum

Innovation plays a decisive role in explaining economies and companies competitiveness in the medium and long run. However, it is limited by the existence of constraints concerning the access to the funds
needed to carry out such investment projects. In this context and given
the available evidence, it is necessary to consider the need to adopt
policies to promote public and private innovation financing in Catalonia in order to overcoming the access difficulties to financial resources.
These policies will allow increases in business productivity, the expansion of sales and the economic growth in the medium and long run.
This work contributes to the evidence offered by studies on the existence of innovation financing constraints at international level. It explains
the relationship between access to innovation financial resources and
the size of the company. Moreover, it analyzes the situation of funding
for business innovation in the case of Catalan companies and finally,
includes a proposal for public and private measures that have been
implemented successfully in different countries. The aim is to consolidate corporate finance’s strengths and improve funding weaknesses as a
driver of innovation in Catalonia.
