La experiencia terapéutica con un analista suficiente e insuficientemente bueno. Una contribución de Winnicott al Psicoanálisis Relacional.

This articles aims to study one of the essential aspects of relational psychoanalysis: the therapeutic experience as a basic element in treatment. Its starting point is the Winnicottian concept of a goodenough mother or environment, extending this to the psychoanalyst’s work. The authors propose to add the idea that this experience should also be not good‐enough, referring to both child‐care and analytic function. For Winnicott the analyst is not a mere receptacle of patients’ transference, whose main task is interpretation, but one who should provide the patient with a new experience, having both positive elements as well as allowing the patient to find the faults in his childhood environment. The analyst must recognise that at times he or she is not good‐enough and so fails the patient. Freud´method allowed new horizons to be opened and relational psychoanalysis would emerge soon after with Ferenczi’s contributions, and Winnicott would follow in his tradition. Mention is made of the immunity of the orthodox analyst, emphasising the implication of the analyst as a subject, and also of the intersubjective therapeutic space as a transitional space. Reference is also made to the significance of a mind defended by hypertrophied functioning which impedes mentalisation. The term “surrender” is analysed in both its senses: as ‘letting go’ and as submission, understanding that if what is understood as a healthy experience of belonging to someone has failed, then pathological, submissive relationships will be sought after.
