Resum

We refer to these democratic systems as large capacity systems. They consist of a set of processes and institutions which have been created throughout history in an evolutionary fashion. This change occurred because of democratization and de-democratization phenomena affecting different processes and institutions where Internet has earned a central position over the last few years in the debate on the future of democratic systems. This is because democratization processes depend on the ability to generate information and allow for new means of expression and participation. Our thesis is that we can unlock an enormous innovation agenda if we consider the possibility of combining the technological components of Internet domain technologies with the technological components on which democratic systems are based. To further explore this, we will first define these domains. We will then review the current debates on democracy and Internet, and, lastly, we will propose an initial research agenda.
