IKEA and design for everybody

Producció científica: Estudi de cas

Resum

IKEA is a Swedish company, founded in1943 by a young entrepreneur named Ingvar Kamprad. Using an interview with the Communication and Interior Design manager, the case study looks at the company's design policy with particular emphasis on the 'Design for Everybody' policy. It contains a great deal of information about company culture and business model, and how it affects design policy. It explains the 'Design for Everybody' vision and specific market segmentation, as well as product strategy, the relationship with suppliers and examples of product design. It ends with a look at IKEA's competition and its future. The figure of the founder, Kamprad, has been (and continues to be in 2008, at the age of 82) essential to the business, which may cast some doubt over the future of the company.
