Resum

One of the four principles that characterise higher education of the Society of Jesus in the so–called “Ledesma– Kolvenbach paradigm” is “humanitas”, the humanist dimension. Father Peter– Hans Kolvenbach, Superior General of the Society of Jesus from 1983 to 2008, affirms that university formation should contribute to a comprehensive development of the whole person. In university institutions of the Society of Jesus, rather than future scientists or professionals of any field, we educate the whole person. Technical and scientific formation should never be isolated from this comprehensive education, key to understand the pedagogy of university institutions of the Society of Jesus. We will analyse the humanism to be developed in universities, in the current historical present. We will structure our study into five parts, following the five characteristics of this humanism (“humanitas”). It is a humanism “from incarnated faith”, “that values reason”, “committed to all men”, “that entails comprehensive education of the person”, and “which promotes freedom and justice”.
