    Resum

A Study and Research Path (SRP) is a model, grounded in the Anthropological Theory of the Didactic (ATD), which describes the inquiry processes that take place when a new, generating question (Q0) is considered. The investigation of the question through different activities and media-milieu dialectics leads to a rooted tree sequence of derived Questions and Answers. Recently, we have investigated the potential of SRPs as project, inquiry-based, study-centered teaching formats for enriching Mechanical Engineering learning. A SRP for the subject “Strength of Materials” was designed and implemented in the last four academic years at EUSS. In every case, the six-month course derived from the study of an object-related Q0: a “slatted-bed” (2015, 2018), or a “kart” (2016, 2017). We discuss how the choice of the Q0, the media-milieu dialectics, adaptation to the inquiry device and inter-personal interactions influence the deployment of the SRP.
