Resum

The knowledge acquired with dynamic cardiomyoplasty has been applied for regenerative cardiology. Stem cell therapy (cellular cardiomyoplasty) for myocardial regeneration in ischemic and non-ischemic cardiomyopathies underwent experimental and clinical evaluations. Myocardial tissue engineering emerges as a new therapeutic tool and extends even more the amazing possibilities of cardiac bioassist procedures, becoming a promising way for the creation of a bioartificial myocardium. The "bioactive implants" being designed for the RECATABI European Study (using nanobiomaterials associated with stem cell grafting) show mechanical properties to be elastic enough to match the myocardium contraction-distraction activity to allow deep structural and functional bio integration.
