Resum
Theoretical background: The adaptation process that families undergo when facing the upbringing of a disabled child implies a set of changes in and challenges to their everyday life. The Ecocultural Family Interview (EFI), based on the Ecocultural Theory, is one of the instruments that allows us to have a better knowledge of the families' real situation and their adaptation. Aim: The aim of this paper is the transcultural adaptation of the EFI to the reality of the families in Catalonia with a child, aged 3 to 6, who suffers a developmental disorder. The adaptation has been carried out in six stages: translating the instrument into Catalan; carrying out evaluations by experts; running a pilot test; discussing with the authors; reliability of scoring criteria; retro-Translating into English. Results: The most significant changes are related to the inclusion, substitution, elimination and modification of some of the contents in the original instrument to ensure it fits the social and cultural reality of Catalonia. Discussion: Some of the most significant changes applied from a cultural and content-related perspective have been analyzed; the theoretical and practical contributions of both the Ecocultural Theory and the instrument itself concerning the improved work with the families are highlighted.
