Description

The AMINA project addresses the complex and persistent challenges of irregular migration from Nigeria and Niger to Europe, where
misinformation, limited access to credible information, and gendered vulnerabilities contribute to unsafe and involuntary migratory
choices. Grounded in a human rights-based approach, the project develops a coherent, transnational communication strategy that
links countries of origin, transit, and destination. It combines research, diaspora engagement, community outreach, and institutional
dialogue to promote informed, voluntary, and safe migration decisions.
AMINA places particular emphasis on empowering Nigerian diaspora communities in Europe—specifically in Italy, Austria, Spain and
Greece—as peer educators and trusted messengers. These individuals, trained and supported throughout the project, will play a
central role in countering disinformation, reshaping migration narratives from within their communities, and amplifying realistic,
experience-based messages. At the same time, awareness campaigns will be co-designed with local communities in Nigeria and
Niger and delivered through digital platforms, storytelling, theatre, and culturally adapted materials.
In parallel, Help Desks in Lagos and Abuja will provide migrants and returnees with direct access to counselling and referral services,
offering alternatives to smuggler networks and misinformation. Special attention is paid to women and girls, who face heightened
risks throughout the migration cycle, and whose inclusion—both as beneficiaries and as active participants—is a cross-cutting
objective of the action.
By combining evidence-based messaging, gender-sensitive methods, and the activation of a diaspora-led communication
ecosystem, AMINA aims to strengthen community resilience and reduce reliance on irregular and dangerous routes.
