Description
BRIDGE is a transformative initiative aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of the Philippine higher education sector through a whole-of-sector approach. It adopts and adapts key EU Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027) guidelines to enhance digital competency, ensure equity in access to digital education, and align academic programs with workforce needs in the Philippine higher Education sector.
The project emphasizes Universal Digital Competency, equipping faculty, management, and administrative staff with digital literacy skills; Industry-Responsive Education, ensuring that higher education meets labour market demands; Digital Equity, bridging socioeconomic and gender-based digital divides; and Digital Innovation Leadership, fostering digital transformation in institutional teaching, research, and operations. Through strategic EU-Philippines collaboration, BRIDGE will contribute to the EU’s Global Gateway initiative for Digital Transformation and Connectivity.
Building upon prior initiatives, BRIDGE will leverage systemic efforts such as CHED’s Smart Campus Project and the ASEAN University Network’s DX Framework, ensuring continuity and scalability. To achieve systemic change, the project will implement five key interventions aligned with EU best practices.
1. a Governance and Collaboration Model will streamline digital transformation management,
2. a Digital Competency Continuous Assessment and Capacity Development Mechanism will support ongoing skill development for HEI staff,
3. An industry-aligned Curriculum Integration Strategy to embed digital skills and workforce-relevant competencies into academic programs,
4. an Equity and Accessibility Initiative will enhance access to digital education across socioeconomic backgrounds, gender groups, and students with impairments,
5. A sustainability and Innovation Blueprint will promote institutional digital leadership, foster Institutional Digital Transformation Centers, and R&D support.
